Michael Clarke, who is running against time to be fit for the World Cup next month, is showing good signs of recovery, according to a Cricket Australia medical report. The Australian captain is missing the current tri-nation series due to a hamstring injury sustained during the Test series versus India.

Clarke is recovering from a hamstring surgery. Cricket Australia physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said: "Michael is progressing well in his rehab and is currently running on a regular basis and has commenced batting." (Also Read: David Warner Defends 'Speak English' Sledge )

"He was reviewed by the surgeon in Melbourne on Sunday who was very pleased with his progress," Kountouris said, adding: "He remains on track for a return to play by February 21, the date we spoke of when the squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup was announced." George Bailey is leading the Australians in the tri-nation ODI series. Steven Smith had filled in brilliantly when Clarke pulled out of the Tests series versus India.

Clarke continues to remain part of Australia's long-term plans. The injury-prone captain also wants to play the 2019 World Cup in England.
