Mushtaq Ahmed will not be part of England's support staff any more. He is taking up an assignment in Pakistan.
England will be without their spin guru Mushtaq Ahmed during the upcoming Test series with Sri Lanka. The popular Mushtaq will not be part of the England dressing room as coach Peter Moores has opted for a more streamlined team.
Mushtaq, who leg-spinning abilities won him a contract with Sussex, was released by the English cricket Board after Moores took over as chief coach. In the new scheme of things, the axe also fell on batting coach Graham Gooch. Mushtaq was appointed by England in 2008.
Mushtaq, who has played 52 Tests for Pakistan, will be back in his own country and work with the national team. He will assist new coach Waqar Younis and batting coach Grant Flower. England will bank on home-spun coaches Peter Such and John Emburey.
After the Ashes rout, England looked for a new set-up. While Andy Flower was sent packing, the axe fell on star cricketer Kevin Pietersen too. Mushtaq was quite a favourite of Pietersen.
