IPL 7: Misread the Conditions, Says Hat-Trick man Shane Watson After Loss to Hyderabad

Shane Watson's hat-trick helped Rajasthan Royals restrict Sunrisers Hyderabad to 134/9 but a batting collapse handed the Hyderabad outfit a 32-run win.

After picking up a splendid hat-trick to put his team on top at the halfway stage, Rajasthan Royals skipper Shane Watson conceded that his batsmen misread the conditions as they suffered a 32-run loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad in Ahmedabad on Thursday. (Scorecard | Match report )

Chasing a relatively small total of 135, Rajasthan's batting suffered an implosion as they were bowled out for 102 with Bhuvneshwar Kumar (4/14) and Dale Steyn (2/31) leading the way for the Sunrisers. Despite his batsmen failing to apply themselves which effectively nullified his efforts with the ball, Watson was gracious to take responsibility for the poor showing.

"I take the full responsibility for that as a captain. We are learning about these conditions and will get better. There weren't too many bad shots, just that the high-quality balls were very frequent. They have world-class bowlers."

It was a game that saw Sunrisers put on a clinical performance with the ball to defend a low total, something they did often in their debut season in 2013.

With this win, the Sunrisers Hyderabad take the fifth spot in the points table, behind fourth-placed Kolkata Knight Riders only on Net Run Rate. Despite the loss, Rajasthan Royals maintain their third spot.
