Dismal England reeling as wkts tumble

SYDNEY: Struggling England suffered yet another top-order collapse against Australia on the second day of the final Ashes Test on Saturday as they slip towards a humiliating 5-0 series defeat.

Scorecard

The beleaguered tourists lost Alastair Cook to the second ball of the day when the skipper, who did not offer a shot, was trapped leg before wicket by Ryan Harris for seven.

Ian Bell was dropped by Shane Watson off the next ball but night watchman James Anderson, who needed treatment after taking a painful blow on his right bowling hand fending off a rearing Mitchell Johnson delivery, did not last long.

He edged Johnson to Michael Clarke at second slip for seven, leaving the tourists reeling at 14/3 in the 10th over.

Rampant Australia followed up with the wicket of Kevin Pietersen (3), snapped up in the slips by Watson off Harris, to leave the tourists 17/4. Bell was then out for two, caught behind by Brad Haddin off Peter Siddle to make it 23/5.

England are chasing Australia's first innings total of 326, with the home side bidding to sweep the series 5-0 for only the third time in Ashes history.
