BCCI bans Sreesanth, Chavan for life

NEW DELHI: The BCCI on Friday banned pacer S Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan for life after being found guilty in the IPL spot fixing case. An internal probe conducted by the BCCI's anti-corruption chief Ravi Sawani held Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan guilty of spot fixing during the sixth edition of the IPL.

While decision on Chandila will be taken later, Amit Singh, who as the conduit between the cricketers and bookies, has been banned for five years. Siddharth Trivedi was handed a 1-year ban while Harmeet Singh has been exonerated by the disciplinary panel.

All players belong to the Rajasthan Royals franchise, but Sreesanth, 30, is the only one to have played for India. He was part of the teams that won the World Twenty20 in 2007 and the World Cup in 2011.

The players were arrested in May along with scores of bookies as part of a police investigation into the spot-fixing scandal, which had caused outrage among fans in the cricket-mad nation.
