IPL 2011: KKR Reign Supreme Yet Again

It was Kolkata once again who made the best of a slow and sluggish pitch after a rain delayed start. They did well to bowl Chennai out for 114 which always looked to be a below par total. The captains of both teams were proved wrong as they thought that the pitch was good for batting and there was no effect of weather on it. But actually the pitch was not at all favorable for batsmen as the ball was not coming on to the bat.

Brett Lee and Iqbal Abdulla bowled well on a slow pitch and restricted Chennai players to play free flowing shots. But seeing the slowness of the pitch it was thought that 114 can be a competitive total as rain came again to interrupt the match. From the Chennai’s point of view it was Badrinath who played a gem of an innings by scoring a hard fought half century.

Lee used the change of pace to his advantage and bowled a tight line to restrict opposition from playing shots. Brett Lee bowled three overs on the trot which is quite different how he was used earlier in the tournament. This certainly built some pressure and M Vijay succumbed to it. After Lee was done with his spell it was Yusuf Pathan who came to the party with his bowling. He took the pace off the ball and got the crucial wicket of Suresh Raina. The scoring was so slow that Chennai hadn’t scored a boundary till the ninth over of the match.

Badrinath and Hussey were the two who were sticking on the wicket to try and build some sought of a partnership. But as they tried to break free it was Hussey who tried to pull Balaji and ended up giving a simple catch to Morgan at mid wicket.

When KKR came out to bat it seemed that the score will not be an easy one to chase and after Ashwin took the all important wicket of Morgan and Gambhir in the second over it seemed quite difficult for Kolkata to fight back. But Kallis was the man who bailed them out of trouble as he looked solid as a rock. Manoj Tiwary who is another man in form looked quite positive from the onset. Both of them were going pretty well when it started raining again and KKR was declared as winners according to the D/L method.
