Australia's young skipper Steve Smith continued his relentless form as he went past cricketing legend Don Bradman's tally (715 runs) of most runs in a single India-Australia series. (Scorecard | Day 4 Report | Highlights )
Even 67 years after his retirement, Bradman's phenomenal numbers continue to be the record to beat and Steve Smith has managed to surpass one such monumental effort. Bradman had socred 715 in a series against India in 1947/48, and that tally sat at the top of the list until Friday, when Smith raced past him during a quick-fire knock of 71.
Smith finished the series with 769 runs in 8 innings at an exceptional average of 128.16. His penchant for big scores has been well-conveyed in his four tons and two fifties in the series.
In the Indian camp, Smith's opposite number Virat Kohli is not too far away either. With four tons and a fifty in seven innings so far, Kohli has an aggregate of 646 runs in seven innings.
In the race to supremacy with the bat in India-Australia series, Kohli is 60 runs behind Ricky Ponting (706 in 2003-04) and 69 behind Bradman.
With Australia expected to declare overnight or early on Day 5 and set India a record total to chase, an ever-confident and positive Kohli will be far more eager to shatter Smith's tally and guide India to their first win of the series.
