Former Pakistan Test captain Imran Khan has admitted his marriage to Reham Khan, a former BBC weather girl. The 62-year-old Imran has been denying his secret wedding to 41-year-old Reham, but on Monday night, the cricketer-turned-politician revealed the truth.
"I am going to Pakistan to share the good news of my marriage with the nation. I have nothing to hide," Imran told the Daily Mail, adding: "getting married isn't a crime." Imran's sister Aleema is not amused. She has said that she doesn't want to meet the new Mrs Khan.
On New Year's Eve, Imran said rumours of marriage were 'greatly exaggerated' and his sister Aleema said the family challenged him 'a few days ago' over the news and he denied it.
The 62-year-old head is the head of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Party. Reham is a divorcee and mother-of-three. She lived in Britain for part of her previous marriage, when she was a weather girl and presenter on the BBC regional news programme, 'South Today'.
Imran was previously married to Jemima Goldsmith Khan and has two sons with her, Sulaiman Isa and Kasim. The couple divorced in 2004. Jemima had revealed in October this year that she was ditching the surname 'Khan' and reverting to her family name because her ex-husband was about to remarry.
Speaking from his home in Islamabad on Tuesday, Imran defended his actions and his new bride, declaring: "A person can marry whenever he/she wants." He pointed to the fact that he had in no way deceived his wife and insisted that he put his two teenage children first when coming to a decision.
