Virat Kohli (30 not out) and Murali Vijay (39 not out) steadied India after the tourists had lost Shikhar Dhawan for a duck and Cheteshwar Pujara for 22. After a splendid bowling performance led by Varun Aaron's 4/41, the sub-continental giants continued to make a strong statement in their final warm-up game before the start of the Test series against Australia. Earlier on Thursday, Aaron took four wickets as India held the hosts to 243 runs. In reply at stumps, India was 99-2.
The 25-year-old Aaron has played only three Tests due to a number of injuries, but Thursday's performance could see him start when the first Test begins at the Adelaide Oval on Tuesday. The right-arm paceman was the leading wicket-taker when the two sides met in a two-day match at the same Glenelg Oval in suburban Adelaide last week.
In the first warm-up game on the Australian tour, also played against CA XI, India's batsmen had shown good application. Kohli top-scored on the second and final day with 60 runs, while Vijay (51), Pujara (55), Wriddhiman Saha (56 not out) and Karn Sharma (55 not out) scored half-centuries. Suresh Raina (44) and Rohit Sharma (23) were also among the runs.
Ajinkya Rahane (1) was the only frontline batsman to have missed out on the day, as he was dismissed by 16-year-old Sam Grimwade.
