The Rajasthan High Court on Wednesday appointed the selection committees for Rajasthan's senior men's team, the junior team and the women's team. National selector Roger Binny, assisted by five others in the court-appointed committee, will be responsible for selection of the men's team.
This ruling has made it possible for Rajasthan's cricketers to play in all of BCCI's domestic tournaments, including the Ranji Trophy. The impasse between the BCCI and Rajasthan Cricket Association over its decision to elect Lalit Modi as president had put several state cricketers' careers in serious doubt.
Two other national selectors, Connor Williams and Rita Dey, suggested by the BCCI, would be part of the junior committee and the women's committee respectively apart from Binny.
The BCCI had warned RCA of dire consequences if they allow Lalit Modi, who is facing a life ban, to fight the state body elections but the RCA not only had ignored it but also proceeded to elect him as the president .
An irked BCCI had immediately suspended RCA and later left it out from its domestic calendar.
The court order to BCCI came from Justice MN Bhandari, who was hearing a writ petition filed by former Rajasthan player Nikhil Doru and others on behalf of 75 Rajasthan players against the BCCI.
A media release from the Indain cricket board said all the costs of the players, officials, staff, ground rent, selectors etc as suggested by the BCCI would be borne by the BCCI.
This arrangement has been made for the current season 2014-15. The suspension of the membership of the RCA continues and would not stand in the way of the players' participation in BCCI tournaments, the release went on to say.
