Kevin Pietersen had been scheduled to open his campaign against Middlesex last week, but he was ruled out by a finger injury.
Former England star Kevin Pietersen will make his domestic Twenty20 Blast debut for Surrey at home to Essex on Friday, tournament organisers announced on Wednesday.
A tweet published on the competition's Twitter feed said: ''NEWS: Kevin Pietersen named in @surreycricket squad, set for #T20Blast action at the Oval on Friday.'' Pietersen had been scheduled to open his campaign against Middlesex last week, but he was ruled out by a finger injury.
A YouTube video showing Pietersen padding up in a changing room was also posted on Surrey's Twitter feed, along with the words: "This gentleman will be coming to work on Friday night." Pietersen, 33, had his international career ended by the England and Wales Cricket Board earlier this year after England's disastrous Ashes series whitewash in Australia.
However, he joked that he was hoping for a call-up when England announce their team for the first Test against Sri Lanka on Thursday. "England selectors meeting today... I'm ready to go!" he wrote on Twitter. "Fancy Lords next week... I'm a number 4 batter & bowl off spin. #KPforLords."
