IPL 7: Delhi Daredevils Skipper Kevin Pietersen Fined for Slow Over Rate

Delhi Daredevils captain Kevin Pietersen has been slapped with a fine of Rs 12 lakh after his bowlers failed to complete their full quota of 20 overs on time in the course of a last-over defeat against Kings XI Punjab.

Delhi Daredevils skipper Kevin Pietersen was fined for maintaining a slow over rate in their Indian Premier League 2014 match against Kings XI Punjab at Feroz Shah Kotla on Monday. "Delhi Daredevils captain Kevin Pietersen has been fined after the team maintained a slow over rate during last evening's IPL match against Kings XI Punjab in Delhi. Since it was his first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Pietersen was fined Rs 12 lakh," the IPL said in a statement.

Delhi suffered their 10th defeat this season as they went down to the Kings XI by four wickets in their last game at home on Monday night. Chasing 165 for victory, Manan Vohra (42) and Akshar Patel (42 not out) helped Punjab become the first team to make it to the playoffs this season .

Pietersen rued another batting collapse towards the end of the innings, which paved the way for their seventh consecutive loss. "It will be incredibly tough to get over this defeat. Our strength has been our batting in the last five-six overs, but it just wasn't meant to be," he said after the match.
