Mumbai Indians take on the Delhi Daredevils in Sharjah on Sunday, in search of their first win of the IPL 2014. Catch all the live updates here. (Scorecard | Commentary | Points Table | Full Schedule )
Languishing at the bottom of the table, Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians will be in desperate search of an elusive win when they clash in Sharjah for the first of two games on Sunday. Their failure to set the tournament on fire so far, has bewildered many, given their apparent firepower. If Mumbai have the likes of Michael Hussey, Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard in their disposal, the Daredevils have been blessed with the might of Kevin Pietersen, JP Duminy and Dinesh Karthik besides Ross Taylor, who had to make way for the regular captain in the last game.
The Daredevils have won just one out for their four games, while Mumbai Indians have failed to win any of their three. Not since 2008, the inaugural IPL, have the Mumbai Indians found themselves in such a spot. It is not a pleasant feeling to be without a win, two weeks into a tournament and when you are the defending champions, it makes things that much worse.
Mumbai Indians have been one of the more successful sides in the Indian Premier League and to top that, they are the defending champions. However, despite retaining the core of the side for this year's tournament, the Mumbai Indians have failed to get their first points on the board. The batting has looked erratic and the bowling has been average at best. Rohit Sharma's 100th IPL game on Friday turned out to be a huge disappointment, when his side was crushed by the Chennai Super Kings. Three losses out of three games do not make for pretty reading and the team would be desperate for a win against the Delhi Daredevils on Sunday.
Mumbai Indians may not have played like defending champions, but the Delhi Daredevils have not done any better either - managing just one win from their four games so far. Despite the return of Kevin Pietersen, they went down to the Sunrirsers Hyderabad on Friday in a close game . Pietersen will be expected to play a key role but so will the others, who have clearly failed to contribute so far. There is no dearth of talent for the Daredevils but they will need to raise their game against the Mumbai Indians, who will be hurting from their three defeats on the trot.
