SA curators were kind to India: Boycott

JOHANNESBURG: Outspoken English legend and noted commentator Geoffrey Boycott is at it again. He has slammed South African curators for being 'too kind' to India in the recent Test series.

Always known to make hyperbolic statements, the former opener even went to the extent of saying, had he been captain of South Africa, he would have strangled the groundsmen.

Speaking to a South African website, Boycott said, "I would have strangled the groundsmen (Chris Scott at the Wanderers and Wilson Ngobese at Kingsmead - Sport24) if I were captain of South Africa."

Boycott's views may give more arsenal to critics and the locals who were incensed at a good tour being shortened because of the bullying ways of the BCCI as they would get further reason to believe that the controversy-marred tour was tailor-made to satisfy Indian needs rather than those of the No 1-ranked South Africa.

"The thing is, these were dry, flat pitches - I've not seen them like that for years in South Africa. Usually there's always a bit of pace and a bit of grass."
