"You can't depend on Virat to win you all the matches. It will not be good for the team to depend on him. There are others in the team who could chip in," Vengsarkar said on Wednesday.
Interestingly, Vengsarkar was the chairman of the selection committee when Virat was picked to play for India in 2007.
"Even the bowlers need to deliver. Their performance is putting a lot of pressure on the batsmen to win matches. This is one area India teams really need to get their act together," he said.
With already two down in the series, it looks tough for India to win the ODI series in New Zealand until MS Dhoni & his brigade do something special in remaining three games. "It's really tough to win the series from here.
But we have a good team and the players are quite capable of turning it around. I hope they do it," Vengsarkar added.
