World Cup: New traffic arrangements near Wankhede Stadium soon

The Mumbai Police’s traffic department has issued a notice to the Western Railway (WR) asking its officials not to use the parking lot opposite Churchgate station. The police have also made elaborate suggestions to ensure smooth traffic in the area during the ICC Cricket World Cup matches to be hosted at the Wankhede Stadium.

As large numbers of spectators are expected for the world cup 2011, the Mumbai Traffic Police has conducted a two-day survey in the area around Wankhede Stadium and the Churchgate station to ease congestion. The police are expecting more than 5,000 vehicles in the area on each day of the World Cup matches, including the final match on April 2.

The deputy commissioner of police (traffic) and police officers of zone I visited the area and made elaborate suggestions to the WR officials to ease congestion. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Nandkumar Chougule, the Veer Nariman Road and the Maharishi Karve (MK) Road junction might experience maximum traffic congestion.
