2nd ODI: India to chase 297 in 42 overs

NEW DELHI: New Zealand scored 101 runs in the 8.4 overs after the rain break and because of the Duckworth/Lewis method, India need to chase 297 runs in 42 overs in the rain-curtailed second one-day international at Seddon Park in Hamilton.

Scorecard

Brisk half-centuries from Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor and a 17-ball 44 from Corey Anderson powered New Zealand to 271/7 in 42 overs.

Luke Ronchi smashed a six and 2 fours in his 10-ball 18.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck in the penultimate over when he clean bowled Nathan McCullum with a yorker.

Mohammed Shami dismissed New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum and Ross Taylor in one over.

Shami took a good catch on his follow-through to dismiss New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum for a first ball duck and two balls later had Taylor caught behind by Dhoni.

Taylor, who reached his 26th fifty off 49 balls, was dismissed for a 56-ball 57 that was studded with 7 fours.

Anderson smashed 5 sixes and 2 fours in his 17-ball 44 before Shikhar Dhawan took a well-judged catch at long-on to dismiss the southpaw off Ishant Sharma.

Mohammed Shami then took a good catch on his follow-through to dismiss New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum for a first ball duck.

Ravindra Jadeja had Kane Williamson stumped by captain MS Dhoni in the second over after resumption of play.

Williamson hit a six and five fours in his 87-ball 77.

Williamson and Taylor resumed New Zealand innings after the rain interruption, due to which the match was reduced to 42 overs.

New Zealand were 170/2 in 33.2 overs when rain stopped play.

Williamson hit a 52-ball 50 soon after Suresh Raina had Martin Guptill caught by Mohammed Shami at short fine-leg.

Guptill hit a six and five fours in his 65-ball 44 before falling to Raina.

Shami gave India the first breakthrough by dismissing Jesse Ryder in the sixth over at the score of 25.

Ryder made a promising 11-ball 20 before getting caught behind.

Earlier, Indian captain MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl as the match began under the threat of rain at Seddon Park.

New Zealand lead the five-match series 1-0 after winning at Napier by 24 runs.

India made no changes to their line-up as Dhoni said it was only in the last few overs at Napier, when they lost quick wickets, that their run chase went awry and that "apart from that we played good cricket."

New Zealand made one change, naming veteran seamer Kyle Mills to replace Adam Milne who has a strained abdominal muscle.

Teams:

India: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Capt.), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami.

New Zealand: Brendon McCullum (Capt.), Martin Guptill, Jesse Ryder, Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Corey Anderson, Luke Ronchi, Nathan McCullum, Kyle Mills, Tim Southee, Mitchell McClenaghan.
