India is just getting used to Sachin's retirement, but the discussion on what he should do next has already started. What would you advise him?
Sachin has had an amazing journey in the world of cricket and he is one of the best players I have seen. His passion for the game has been tremendous and opening with him for team Mumbai in the IPL awarded me some of the best moments in the game. Having said that, this is the time for him to unwind and relax. I feel that he should not rush into any decisions regarding what should be done next.
You are also the minister of postal services in Sri Lanka and quite active as a politician. How easy or tough was it moving into a new turf?
I played cricket for 20 years. Representing the country and winning laurels for it always felt great, though it was no cakewalk. Similarly, being a politician is tough, but I am slowly getting used to it.
How supportive are you of the various evolving formats of cricket? Isn't the big money involved spoiling cricketers?
Just like anything new, the changes bring in a whole lot of positives and negatives. The evolving formats open up a floodgate of opportunities to upcoming players. Making the best of it depends on their individual discretion.
What do you think about the lifetime ban on Sreesanth?
All I can say is that the incident has been quite unfortunate. As I said, players have to be extremely careful and should think about the future of their career when they face tempting situations.
