The going will not be easy for Arjun who has been in patchy form and his pedigree creates a hype that has seen his famous father appeal to the media to let his "cricket-mad" son pursue the game without too much scrutiny.
Those who know Sachin feel he may take some time to help out Arjun with his game as he is not likely to take up many commitments in the immediate future.
The master batsman is not seen to be cut out for commentary and under BCCI rules cannot be a selector for another five years. He is not seen to have business interests that can keep him too occupied.
As has been the case during his long career, Sachin is expected to help out budding talent. He has offered words of advice and practical tips to dozens of players, including the likes of Rohit Sharma and Rohan Gavaskar.
Following Arjun's game is expected to take up some of Sachin's time as he adjusts to life after being a permanent fixture of the Indian cricket squad. He has often said life after active cricket will present a dilemma.
Sachin is a nominated Rajya Sabha MP, but may not attend much of the forthcoming winter session as he takes a couple of months off to relax and figure out what he would like to do without a full-time assignment.
His wife Anjali may see more of him after an emotional last Test during which she had hoped he would sign off with a century. She even did not change a seat, in a superstitious belief. Sachin did not score a ton, but the farewell after India won the match did not lack enthusiasm.
