Warner has been fined $11,000 for his behaviour, apart from being banned from the Champions Trophy and all warm-up games leading up to the Ashes. While announcing the punishment, Cricket Australia cited its Code of Conduct rulebook even as Warner pleaded guilty to breaching Rule 6 that deals with "unbecoming behavior".
While Aussie skipper George Bailey said Warner had taken the disciplinary action "on the chin", it's unlikely the opener will play the first Test as he won't be part of any of the warm-up matches.
However, it's not the ban that will be playing on Australia's mind. It will be the repercussions of his actions here in Birmingham, coupled with Michael Clarke's nagging injury and the team's poor form, which will test them in the Ashes.
It's now Cricket Australia's headache to deal with Warner while England won't mind Root being seen here as the man Aussies will find difficult to tackle when the Ashes commence.
