Zaheer Khan was one of the crucial members of the RCB set up but his injury meant that the Bangalore side had to experiment with the likes of RP Singh and Ravi Rampaul.
But on Friday, Jaydev Unadkat's 5-25 against Delhi Daredevils came as a welcome relief for RCB as they closed in on a play-off berth. The Saurashtra paceman bowled at a decent pace got the yorker to land on a regular basis, which must have come as a big relief for captain Virat Kohli and coach Ray Jennings.
Even in the last over, when Irfan Pathan was looking good to run away with the game, Unadkat, much like Zaheer of old, landed the ball at the right area and stopped him from finding the elevation.
Earlier, he had got the wickets of Mahela Jayawardene, Virender Sehwag, Unmukt Chand and Kedar Jadhav and in the last over, he dismissed Morne Morkel, to hand RCB the four-run win.
Zaheer is a master of the art of reverse swing and it was good to see Unadkat doing the same. "At the start of the tournament I was very apprehensive about getting a game.
But I am thankful to the team management, the captain and coach for showing faith in me. Zaheer bhai also helped me a lot," Unadkat said.
