A defeat against Kings XI Punjab in their last home match on Tuesday has added to RCB's woes as they now face a must-win situation against Chennai to bolster their playoff chances. Ironically, a victory against CSK alone cannot guarantee RCB a passage into the playoffs. A lot depends on how Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab finish their league engagements as they too are in the reckoning.
MS Dhoni's CSK will be determined to win the match and finish atop the league table. They are now second behind Mumbai Indians with 22 points each with net run rate separating the two.
Saturday's contest will be a test of character for Virat Kohli and Co, who had won six matches at home before their loss to Punjab. For, they will be up against formidable opponents who have lost only four of their 15 outings this season. RCB hold a poor head-to head record against Chennai, winning only five matches of their 14 meetings since IPL began in 2008. In their previous fixture this year, RCB were in contention to win the tie but RP Singh's dramatic last-ball no-ball did them in.
