Mumbai bookie spilled beans after rift

MUMBAI: A city bookie reportedly tipped off the Delhi police about spot-fixing after he fell out with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's aide and the mastermind, Sunil Abhichandani, sources said.

The bookie's name had cropped up in a 2006 land-grabbing case. Sunil reportedly called up the bookie and said he had fixed him in the case, the sources said.

In November 2004, builder Iqbal Attarwala and his henchmen allegedly grabbed Ranchodbhai Patel's plot. The sources said the bookie participated in a meeting with gangster Chhota Shakeel's brother-in-law Arif Bhaijan and Attarwala.

The bookie has been waiting for a chance to hit back at Sunil. "He came to know about Sunil's IPL match-fixing plans and passed on information to Mumbai police but they did not show much interest as they feared it would hurt the interests of a senior politician," the sources said. A police official denied that they intended to go slow. The bookie, through friends, then contacted the Delhi police, the source said.

6 TN bookies arrested: The CB-CID of the Tamil Nadu police held six bookies in the spot-fixing racket after raids at 13 locations overnight and early Friday.
