Ben Rohrer was the latest casualty for the Daredevils as he was bowled by Vinay Kumar for a hard-fought 27-ball 32 right after he and Unmukt Chand gave Delhi some respite.
Chasing 184, the Chand-Rohrer duo put up a quick-fire 58-run partnership for the fourth wicket after the Daredevils lost openers Mahela Jayawardene and Virender Sehwag early to Jaydev Unadkat.
Jayawardene (19) looked dangerous as he hit 4 boundaries in his short-lived innings, but Unadkat had other plans in mind when he bowled the Sri Lankan on the first ball of his over after Mahela got an inside edge.
Soon after, Unadkat had Sehwag (18) caught at mid on by Cheteshwar Pujara right after the Delhi Dasher looked to do some damage by hitting Vinay for three successive boundaries in the previous over.
Moises Henriques then joined the wicket taking party as he comprehensively bowled stand-in skipper David Warner to leave the Daredevils reeling at 61/3 after 7 overs.
Earlier, a gritty innings by skipper Virat Kohli (99 off 58) helped Royal Challengers Bangalore post 183/4 against Delhi Daredevils.
Kohli in his blistering knock that included 10 boundaries and 4 sixes blasted the Delhi bowlers to all parts of the ground and helped get the Royal Challengers back into the game after a bad start.
AB de Villiers (32* off 17) too played a fiery cameo and hit two boundaries and the same number of sixes and along with Kohli put up an impressive 94-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Earlier, Royal Challengers Bangalore got off to a bad start when Irfan Pathan and Siddarth Kaul struck for Delhi Daredevils to dismiss the openers Chris Gayle and Pujara cheaply.
Pathan started the party when he gave the Daredevils a big breakthrough by dismissing the dangerous Gayle for a meagre score of 4.
The West Indian did hit Pathan for a four on the previous ball, but the Baroda pacer came back strongly to force Gayle to get an inside edge that knocked his middle stump.
Soon after, Kaul got the wicket of Pujara, who looked to be heading towards a big innings, when the Delhi pacer got the better of the Bangalore batsman's stumps.
However, Kohli and Henriques held their nerves to put up a swift 57- run partnership for the third wicket to get the Royal Challengers back into the game.
Shahbaz Nadeem then got Delhi Daredevils back into the game by dismissing Henriques.
Nadeem in his very last over proved instrumental in breaking the partnership as he took a brilliant catch off his own bowling to send Henriques (26) packing back to the dugout.
Earlier, Delhi Daredevils stand-in skipper Warner won the toss and decided to bowl against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
