Parthiv, Perera lead Hyderabad to 150/7

NEW DELHI: Late batting surge by Parthiv Patel and Thisara Perera powered Hyderabad to set a 151-run target for Punjab in their IPL match at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.

Parthiv slammed his half-century at a time when the Sunrisers Hyderabad needed it the most and it helped them recover well after a horrendous start to their innings.

Patel, however, was dismissed soon after for a score of 61 runs that included 5 boundaries and a couple of sixes and along with Perera put up 48-runs for the 7th wicket.

Perera too played a handy cameo of 32 runs in just 19 runs and hit 2 boundaries and the same number of sixes.

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad had no answer to some fiery bowling by debutant Sandeep Sharma as the Punjab pacer rattled their batsmen.

Sandeep first scalped Hanuma Vihari when the Hyderabad batsman cut a good length delivery straight to David Miller at point to bring an early end to his short-lived innings of 5 runs that included a lone boundary.

Soon after, India's under-19 star dismissed skipper Cameron White and Biplab Samantray in successive deliveries to put the Kings XI Punjab in a commanding position against the Sunrisers.

Opener Parthiv Patel and Karan Sharma then tried to hold their nerves and revive the Hyderabad innings as they put up a decent 42-run partnership, but Parvinder Awana succeeded in breaking that growing stand.

Karan (22), in his attempt to pull Awana's short delivery, got a wicked top edge that was taken comfortably by Kings XI Punjab skipper Adam Gilchrist.

Earlier, Harmeet Singh drew first blood for Punjab when on the very first delivery of his first over he was able to force Shikhar Dhawan (15) to hit the ball straight back to him to take a good catch.

Dhawan hit two boundaries in his innings after Gilchrist won the toss and decided to bowl against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

White will captain the Sunrisers instead of out of form Kumar Sangakkara. They also bring in Samantray in place of Ashish Reddy. On the other hand, David Hussey sits this one out for Punjab.

Teams:

Kings XI Punjab: Mandeep Singh, Adam Gilchrist (Capt. & wk), Shaun Marsh, Luke Pomersbach, David Miller, Harmeet Singh, Rajagopal Sathish, Piyush Chawla, Sandeep Sharma, Praveen Kumar, Parvinder Awana.
