KKR look for 'home' run in Ranchi

RANCHI: Technically, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will play the first of their two 'home' matches of the ongoing T20 league outside Kolkata at JSCA International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, but there is hardly anything to feel at home for Gautam Gambhir & Co. at India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni's hometown.

KKR are precariously placed on the points table and their fate and progress in the tournament also depends on how the results of other matches go ahead.

As if that isn't enough cause for anxiety, the possibility of the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) getting the 'home' support would surely add to their woes.

There's no prize for guessing why the visitors would draw more cheers. RCB have in their ranks local boy Saurabh Tiwary and the No. 1 attraction in this format, Chris Gayle. The defending champions KKR's poor performance thus far has also been a factor.

However, KKR cannot but focus on winning the last three matches, home or away. Gambhir said that in as many words at the pre-match presser, saying: "Home or away, winning matters most for KKR right now, but being the home side, we expect to get as much support as we get at Eden Gardens".

Since leaving KKR, Gayle has feasted upon his former side most of the times and if he gets going on Sunday, the trouble will increase manifold for Gambhir's boys for sure.

The Caribbean six-machine is not the only threat for the hosts though, RCB also have captain Virat Kohli and South African wicketkeeper-batsman AB de Villiers in red-hot form.
