Yadav, also an ex-Indian Cricket League (ICL) player, in fact made the surprising claim that he was helping the International Cricket Council's Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) fight the problem of fixing in cricket.
"I have nothing to do with spot fixing. I haven't done anything wrong so I am ready to provide all the information. In fact, I am helping the ICC's ACU on certain issues," Baburao told TOI on Monday from Delhi, just before he was taken to the special cell of Delhi Police for questioning. He even claimed that he had come to the Capital at ACU's behest.
Baburao is the second cricketer from Vidarbha whose name has surfaced in the spot-fixing case. On Sunday, former Vidarbha cricketer, Manish Guddewar was arrested by Delhi Police from Aurangabad.
Yadav said that he knew Sreesanth, Guddewar and Ajit Chandila. "Me and Sreesanth were together in MRF academy while I played local cricket with Manish. I also know Chandila. In fact, I congratulated him when he claimed the wickets of Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting in a tie of the T20 league this season. If they have done something wrong that doesn't mean I have also done anything wrong," he said.
When asked why he was in Delhi, Baburao said, "I was called by ICC's Anti-Corruption Unit for some information. That's it," he said. When pressed further, he said that he was in touch with Dharamveer Singh Yadav, ICC's regional (India & Sri Lanka) security manager. He refused to give further details.
When TOI contacted Dharamveer Yadav, he simply denied he had anything to do with the issue. "I have no knowledge of this incident," Dharamveer said.
