Surprise of surprises, an Indian bowler managed to match that dubious 'feat' on Tuesday.
West Zone's Abhishek Nayar, bowling his first over - 12th of the South Zone innings - in the Deodhar Trophy semifinal at the Nehru Stadium, sent down 10 wides and one no-ball, much to the disbelief of his teammates and the 1000-odd enthusiasts on the terraces.
With the new ball swinging, as it does in the first couple of hours at this venue, Nayar started his spell with a beauty. The fullish length ball moved in the air, went through South opener Hanuma Vihari's gate and pegged back his middle and leg stumps.
In came South skipper Dinesh Karthik who turned the first ball he faced to fine leg and ran two. Then the horror show began. The next ball beat Karthik's bat as it moved away and umpire Subrat Das called it wide.
Maybe a marginal decision. But as far as the next nine wides were concerned, there was no scope for any doubt.
