Schedule of the fifth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) has been announced. This nearly two months long cricket league is scheduled to start from April 4, 2012 and it will continue to May 27, 2012. IPL 2012 will see 72 matches being played in 54 days. Matches will be taking place in 12 venues. This time, nine franchises will be seen facing each other in the round robin league. Kochi Tuskers Kerala has been terminated by the BCCI for breaching its terms of agreement.

The schedule of the fifth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) has been revised by the organizers keeping in view the upcoming Municipal Elections in the Capital in mid-April. According to revised schedule, Delhi Daredevils will take on Deccan Chargers on April 19 instead of April 14 at the Ferozh Shah Kotla stadium.
Top two teams of the round robin league will face each other in the Qualifier 1 play-off match while third and fourth ranked team will play against each other in the Eliminator play-off match. However, the Qualifier 2 play-off will be played between the winner of the Eliminator and loser of the Qualifier 1.
Both Qualifier 2 play-off and final match will be played at the M A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
IPL 5 will start with the match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians on April 4, 2012 at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
Chennai Super Kings is the defending champion. They won the title two times and now they are aiming to win the title for the third time. They look confident. Skipper, MS Dhoni, will encourage his team members to perform well and snatch the title third time.
IPL 2012 Opening Ceremony:
Opening ceremony of Indian Premier League will kick off on April 3, one day before the IPL 2012. It will take place at YMCA College of Physical Education, Chennai. The opening ceremony program will start from 7:30 pm but the gates will remain open from 5:00 pm for entry. It is thought that fans can see an astounding event this year.
Like all previous seasons, cricket fans all around the world will see the inclusion of Bollywood and Hollywood in the opening ceremony of IPL 2012. It is heard that a number of popular celebrities from India and abroad will perform on the stage. Legend Bollywood actor, Amitabh Bachchan, will host the program.
According to the reports, this ceremony will be graced with the performance of Hollywood singer and actress Katy Perry. No doubt stars from Bollywood- Kareena kapoor, Salman Khan, Prabhudeva and Priyanka Chopra will dazzle the audience with their performances on stage.
Captains of the nine franchises will take the MCC Spirit of Cricket pledge in the opening ceremony. It has been on display since the inaugural season of IPL in 2008.
No doubt, IPL 2012 is going to create huge excitement among the cricket crazy fans. Fans once again will see the combination of local players along with foreign players.
