IPL 2011: DD Vs KXIP Highlights – Delhi Face Yet Another Defeat

It was all too easy for Punjab today as they register a thumping win over the not so hot Delhi Daredevils. The match was held in the beautiful city of Dharamshala which is host to one of the most beautiful stadiums in the world.

Delhi Daredevils batted failed yet again and they failed to chase a par score on a batting track. The loss will send message to the Delhi team management that there is something exceptionally wrong with the team. On the other hand, Punjab will be quite happy with the performance as their hopes of reaching the knock out stages are still alive.

Kings-XI-Punjab-win It was Paul Valthaty who earned the orange cap once again by thumping Delhi with some extremely good shots. He certainly looked shaky in the beginning but once he was set it was the bowlers who had to bowl in the right areas in order to keep him quite. He hammered 62 runs in quick time which powered Punjab’s ship to score a competitive score. One thing which supported Punjab in reaching to a respectable total was the shoddy Delhi fielding as they dropped a number of catches.

It is said that catches win matches and when you drop so many of them then you certainly don’t deserve to win and this is exactly what happened today with Delhi. After losing Gilchrist early Delhi looked good to make a comeback and put the brakes on but poor fielding and some good batting by Valthaty and Marsh steered the Punjab’s ship.

Though Pathan gave a double break through by removing both Valthaty and Marsh but it was Dinesh Karthik who capitalized on inexperienced bowlers. Punjab ended with a total of 170 runs and Delhi required 171 in 20 overs. Both teams had a 50-50 chance at the end of the first innings.

The Delhi chase started in a quite non-familiar fashion as both Ojha and Warner were not ready to take any risks in the first 4 overs. It was the 5th over when Ojha hit Shalabh Srivastava for 2 sixes and a four. But the flurry was short-lived as both the openers got out after scoring a run ball 28 and 29 in the eight over. It was Piyush Chawla who bowled out of his skins and took the wickets of Sriram, Rao and Hopes. Delhi struggled against the spinning web of Piyush Chawla and lost the match by a big margin.
