ICC World Cup Roundup: ICC Bans Tweeting During World Cup, Times Internet Bags Mobile Rights



ICC has banned world cup players from tweeting during the world cup to ensure illegal bookmakers do not use the views of players and team staff on Twitter as betting guides.

In essence, ICC hasn’t banned twitter, but tweeting by players even inadvertently.

Times Internet Bags Mobile Rights For ICC Cricket World Cup
Indiatimes 58888, the mobile division of Times Internet Limited (TIL), has bagged the mobile content rights of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. The tournament commences on February 19.
The rights, acquired from Reliance Communications Limited, include mobile content services including SMS, voice & video alerts, live audio commentary, mobile content downloads and 2G and 3G services.
Other services to be offered by TIL include World Cup theme as Ring Back Tone, Cricket Trivia & Predicta-based contests, Post Match Analysis and Mobile Marketing advertisements.
Broadcasting Rights
International Cricket Council has sold its rights of broadcasting for 2011 Cricket World Cup for around US$ 2 Billion to ESPN Star Sports. It would be broadcasting all around the world in about 220 countries and this is for the first time that the Cricket world cup will be broadcasted in High Definition (HD) format.
