Tim Southee of Rajasthan Royals looks on as Karun Nair of Rajasthan Royals reacts after taking a catch at the boundary line to throw it back during match 3 of the Pepsi IPL 2015 (Indian Premier League) between The Kings XI Punjab and The Rajasthan Royals held at the M.C.A. Over the years the IPL has seen some sensational catches being taken, but if there was a prize for the best tag-team effort in fielding it would have to go to Tim Southee and Karun Nair of Rajasthan Royals.(Report | Scorecard | Highlights)
On Friday, the Royals were defending 162 versus Kings XI Punjab, with George Bailey's side needing 32 off 7 deliveries. Bailey had hit James Faulkner for a 6 in the penultimate over and was Punjab's last hope.
However, when he went for another big hit off Faulkner off the last ball of the 19th over, he didn't expect a spectacular collaboration between Tim Southee and Karun Nair on the boundary. Southee pulled the ball that was flying over the boundary rope and flung it back to keep it in play. Nair stuck out a hand and the ball went straight into his outstretched hand. The result was one of the most incredible pieces of fielding ever seen on a cricket pitch. The commentators were literally shouting into their microphones. Nair was the one who was credited with the catch, because he completed it.
