London: Chris Woakes is likely to miss England's upcoming Test series at home to New Zealand after undergoing knee surgery on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old all-rounder tore his left meniscus while recovering from a foot injury sustained at the recent World Cup and will be sidelined for up to six weeks.

If that prognosis is correct, that means the Warwickshire seamer will be unfit for the two Tests against New Zealand at Lord's and Headingley, starting on May 21 and May 29 respectively.

He may also be struggling to make the subsequent one-day series, starting on June 9, against losing World Cup finalists New Zealand.

An England and Wales Cricket Board statement issued Wednesday said: "The ECB medical team confirms that England and Warwickshire bowler Chris Woakes underwent uncomplicated keyhole surgery on his left knee for a meniscal tear earlier today.

"The injury occurred while undergoing rehab for his foot injury. His rehab is likely to take a further four to six weeks."

Woakes played three of his four Tests in the series win at home to India last year, taking five wickets.
