Virender Sehwag played a typically brisk innings for Kings XI Punjab during their Indian Premier League match against Delhi Daredevils in Pune on Wednesday. Sehwag's 41-ball 47 was studded with four fours and a couple of sixes. The innings let Sehwag score a few records.(IPL 2015 Full Coverage)
During the course of his innings in Pune, Sehwag produced 438 boundaries (332 fours and 106 sixes) in 99 fixtures. This is the highest by a batsman in the IPL. Sehwag overtook the 432 (232 fours and 200 sixes) by Chris Gayle in 70 matches.(Sehwag's Love Affair With Wankhede Continues)
Sehwag became the 25th batsman to complete 4000 runs or more in Twenty20. His current aggregate is 4032 (average 28.19) in 151 matches. He is the seventh Indian to accomplish the feat in Twenty20, joining Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Robin Uthappa.(Maxwell Hails Sehwag as a Legend)
Sehwag's overall strike rate of 156.58 is the highest by any batsman in the IPL (minimum 650 runs). He has scored 2712 runs at an average of 28.85 in 99 matches. No wonder, he commands a decent price from IPL team owners and team members.
Interestingly, the former India dasher remains a man of extremes.
Sehwag, while scoring 47 off 41 balls, has managed a strike rate of 114.63 -- his slowest in an innings of 40 or more in the IPL. His previous slowest being 144 while scoring 72 off 50 balls for Punjab versus Kolkata at Cuttack on May 11, 2014.
