Unknown gunmen shot dead a cricketer during a match in the Larkhaloozo area of Mamond tehsil in the Bajaur agency tribal region in Pakistan bordering Afghanistan on Saturday evening.
Locals and officials said that the victim, Tayab Khan, son of Hazrat Ali a member of Bajaur levies force (national security) was playing a cricket final at Larkhaloozo Cricket ground when unidentified persons opened fire, according to a report in aipsmedia.com.
Tayab was the captain of Lagarai cricket team and was on the field when he was attacked. His team needed 10 runs need off two balls, when unknown gunmen opened fire on him.
He was seriously wounded and died before reaching the agency headquarters hospital in Khar. The assailants fled from the scene.
Meanwhile, the administration has launched investigations into the incident. According to locals, the victim had no personal enmity in the area.
Funeral prayers were attended by government officials and tribal elders.
