New Delhi: Adjudged Man of the Tournament for his fierce bowling during World Cup 2015, Aussie Mitchell Starc has a minor knee injury that will see him miss the start of this year's Indian Premier League.

According to a report in Cricinfo, Starc has been advised rest for upto three weeks before he joins Royal Challengers Bangalore -- a franchise he had joined last year.

"Mitchell had some knee soreness during the latter stages of the World Cup," Australia's physio Alex Kountouris was quoted as saying. "He will have a short period off to rest and recover, before being reassessed by CA medical staff. We estimate his recovery time will be between two-three weeks."

Starc was fierce during Australia's succeful World Cup 2015 campaign. He took 22 wickets with best figures of six for 28. Even in the IPL last year, he was in good form and claimed 14 wickets from as many matches.

In his brief absence, the fast-bowling responsibility in the RCB team will fall on Indian duo of Varun Aaron and Ashok Dinda while Kiwi Adam Milne, who took five wickets from six World Cup 2015 matches, will also be an option for captain Virat Kohli.

Royal Challengers Bangalore play their first match of IPL 2015 against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on April 11.
