Daniel Vettori, New Zealand's veteran left-arm spinner announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, two days after his team finished runners-up at the World Cup 2015.
"It was my last game for New Zealand, in the final, so it was a lovely way to finish," Vettori told reporters in Auckland. ('Five overs that cost New Zealand a shot a glory')
"It would have been great to win, but I'm pretty proud of everyone, the way we've gone about things the last six weeks. (Kiwis accept defeat, proud of team's efforts)
"To be able to finish in the final, albeit without a win, I'm just very grateful for the amount of support I had particularly from Brendon [McCullum] and Mike [Hesson]. (McCullum defends 'fearless approach' after World Cup exit)
"To be able to get back from a number of injuries and to be here and to be part of it ... is something I'll always treasure," he added. (McCullum's wicket set Kiwis back: Ian Chappell)
Vettori departs the game as one of the best left-arm spinners to have played the game, walking away with 305 wickets in 295 ODIs and 362 in 113 Tests.
