Azhar Ali is set to be appointed Pakistan's ODI captain after Misbah-ul-Haq retired from the 50-over format following the team's World Cup 2015 exit, reports said on Saturday. Ali was not part of the World Cup team. The Pakistan Cricket Board is also likely to set-up a new four-member selection committee.

Ali, 30, has played only 14 ODIs but averages an impressive 41.09. He is however a regular in the Test team and has been a steadying influence in the longest format of the game. Pakistan's World Cup campaign was beset with problems and controversies. Many former cricketers from the country had even questioned Misbah's captaincy and his decision to bat low down the order.

If reports about Ali's appointment are true, it might come as a surprise to the Pakistan team and the cricket world. Last week, media reports had indicated that Sohaib Maqsood and Fawad Alam were tipped to take over from Misbah.

Chief selector Moin Khan's visit to a casino sparked more trouble as he was sent home midway through the World Cup. He is likely to be replaced by Haroon Rasheed as the new chief selector. Haroon's selection commitee will also include Kabir Khan , a former Pakistan bowler and Afghanistan coach, Azhar Khan and Saleem Jaffar.
