India's vice-captain Virat Kohli on Saturday said that containing South Africa's AB de Villiers would be a challenge when the two teams lock horns on Sunday at Melbourne. He, however, pointed out that a win at the Melbourne Cricket Ground is crucial and will further add to the team's self-belief.
The defending champions played dominant cricket in their first match of World Cup 2015 last Sunday. The 76-run win against rivals Pakistan came after a strong of defeats on a long tour Down Under. Kohli however says it was only the start. "We need to beat the Proteas to add to our self-belief," he said on the eve of the Pool B match. Ranked second in the list of ODI batsmen, the 26-year-old however was aware of the challenge that lay ahead - namely top-ranked de Villiers. "It is always difficult to plan against him. We hope to disguise de Villiers mentally," said the Delhi batsman.
India have never defeated South Africa in World Cups. In what is being billed as a battle between batting might and fierce pace, Sunday's match promises fireworks galore.
