Virat Kohli's meteoric rise is not just visible on the cricket field. India's new Test captain breached the staggering five million followers' mark on Twitter. On December 23rd, he overtook Sachin Tendulkar to become the most-followed Indian sportsperson on the micro-blogging website. By Friday (January 2), the 26-year-old had built a sizeable lead and now has five million fans on the site. (Also read: Virat Kohli voted 'biggest sports jerk of the week' in Aussie media poll )

Kohli, who became India's permanent Test captain after Mahendra Singh Dhoni's sudden retirement, has been a fierce competitor Down Under. The batsman has made repeated headlines - due to his good form as well as verbal duels against the Australians. Hailed for his aggression by some and doubted as being a little immature by others, Kohli though seems to have struck a chord with fans online.
