In a big blow to West Indies ahead of the World Cup, ace spinner Sunil Narine has reportedly withdrawn from the tournament citing the need for more time to remodel his bowling action.
Narine, who was reported twice for a suspect action, decided to give the World Cup - starting February 14 - a miss to perfect his bowling action. According to a report in BBC which quotes West Indies Cricket Board, the 26-year-old is not confident of bowling for long durations with his reworked bowling action and needs more practice to get used to it.
While WICB did not pick Narine since he was reported during the Champions League T20 tournament, the spinner was named in the final West Indies squad and was seen as a key player in the team. His absence from the side may further damage World Cup preparations for a side that is already without veterans Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo.
The team will be under young Jason Holder during the tournament with Chris Gayle as the most experienced player in the side.
