New Delhi: Despite numerous reports suggesting MRF are the front runners to buy two-time Indian Premier Legaue champions Chennai Super Kings, Board of Control for Cricket in India has refused to confirm names of perspective buyers.
Speaking to NDTV, BCCI vicepresident Rajeev Shukla denied having any knowledge. "We don't have any knowledge. If there is any such move it will go to the IPL Governing Council and then to the Working Committee," he said.
Selling his team will not be easy for N. Srinivasan - the sidelined BCCI chief who is also the managing director of India Cements which currently owns CSK. The obvious question is why will any company want to buy a team that faces the prospect of being terminated? And even if Srinivasan ends up finding a buyer, the sale will need to be cleared by the three-member investigative committee set up by the Supreme Court.
''Where is the question of selling CSK till the time the three-member committee takes a final call on CSK? So I don't see a sale happening and even if that sale happens, there should be a stay on it'' said sports activist Rahul Mehra.
NDTV has also learnt that Arun Jaitley will play a key role in settling the issue within the BCCI. He is expected to meet Srinivasan on the 30th of January where he may try and convince the former BCCI chief that he cannot stand for elections based on the apex court's order. So it may not be a wise decision for him to sell CSK in the first place.
