Former India batsman and United Nations goodwill ambassador Sachin Tendulkar, met UN General-Secretary Ban Ki-moon in New Delhi during an event to mark the UN's 70th anniversary. Tendulkar was accompanied by UNICEF national ambassador Sharmila Tagore, Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi and actor-activist Nandita Das at an event called, 'The Future We Want'.
Tendulkar, who retired from international cricket after playing his 200th and final Test against the West Indies in Mumbai in 2013, drew special attention from the UN top boss at the glittering gathering.
"I have received a lot of applause in India. But this evening, I seem to be the least popular person on the stage. I am indeed honoured that such individuals are lending their names to the UN cause," Ban Ki-moon said, adding: "The god of cricket will now bat for the UN."
