Riding on a superb ton by skipper Mohammad Kaif and a half-century by Ricky Bhui, Andhra took a solid 159-run first innings lead before reducing Tripura to 13 for three in their second innings on day two of their Ranji Trophy Group C cricket match in Ongole on Wednesday.

Starting the day on 97 for four, the overnight batsmen -- Kaif, resuming on 40, and Bhui, on 11 -- frustrated the Tripura bowling attack and helped the team score 310 all out in their first essay.

The fifth wicket duo, which joined forces on Tuesday, put on a massive stand of 194 runs to not just overhaul the visitors' first innings total of 151, but also take the team past 250 runs.

After Kaif and Bhui's dismissals in quick secession, none of the lower order batsmen could sustain for long as the next four wickets fell for 43 runs.

Tripura's Manisankar Murasingh (5/70) ended with five wickets. Trailing by 159 runs, Tripura lost three wickets in just 9.1 overs with Abhijit Dey (0) at the crease when the stumps were drawn. D Siva Kumar took two wickets by giving away just four runs in his 4.1 overs on Wednesday. Tripura need 146 more runs with seven wickets remaining to avoid innings defeat.

No play in Dharamsala

No play was possible due to rain on the second day of the Group C Ranji Trophy cricket match between Himachal Pradesh and Jharkhand on Wednesday.

Earlier, after being sent into bat on the first day on Tuesday, opener Ankush Bains struck a fine century as Himachal Pradesh reached 195 for one at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium.

Goa score 304, reduce Services to 28 for two

Skipper Sagun Kamat (84), Darshan Misal (76) and Saurabh Bandekar (84) scored a half-century each to steer Goa to 304 all out in their first innings and then reduce Services to 28 for two on the second day of their Group C match.

Resuming on 253 for five, Misal and Bandekar, who had already stitched 97 runs for the sixth wicket, extended the partnership to 111 runs together before the former got out. Misal's knock saw him hitting 10 boundaries, while Bandekar also sent the ball 10 times to the fence, besides going for the maximum once.

After Misal's dismissal, Bandekar carried on with the tail-enders and helped the Goans cross 300-run mark. On Tuesday, Kamat had scored a half-century. Services' Suraj Yadav (4/92), Deepak Punia (3/62) and Roshan Raj (2/83) were among wickets.

In reply to Goa's first innings score, Services got off to a poor start losing both their openers for 10 runs on the board. Gauresh Gawas (2/11) claimed both the wickets. At the close of play, Anshul Gupta was batting on 13 and skipper Rajat Paliwal was on nine.

Services still require 277 runs with eight wickets in hand to overtake Goa's first innings total.

Jadhav, Tarjinder take Assam to 393

In Hyderabad, Skipper Dheeraj Jadhav (74) and Tarjinder Singh (66) scored half centuries in their 109-run stand for the fifth wicket as Assam scored 393 in their first innings against Hyderabad in a Rani Trophy Group C cricket match.

Assam resuming at 248 for 4 and riding on Jadhav and Singh's determined batting they managed to get close to 400-run mark. Leg-spinner Kash Bhandari (3/93) was the most successful bowler for the hosts with three scalps while Mehdi Hasan (2/88) and AI Harrsha (2/99) took two wickets apiece.

Hyderabad ended the day two at 35 for no loss with openers Tanmay Agarwal (15) and Akshat Reddy (20) at the crease.
