Guwahati: Off-spinner Swarupam Purkayastha took a five-wicket haul as Assam posted a five-wicket win over Services on the third day of their Ranji Trophy Group C cricket match here on Wednesday.
In reply to Services first innings total of 113, Assam resumed on 211 for eight in their first essay and went on to post 257 all out, thereby taking a healthy lead of 144 runs.
Assam bowlers once again came up with a brilliant show as they managed to bundle out Services for a mere 170 in their second innings to set themselves a small target of 27 runs.
While Purkayastha finished with impressive figures of five for 29, Arup Das (2/21) and J Syed Mohammad (2/40) struck twice each.
For Services, Rajat Paliwal top-scored with 48 in the second innings.
Chasing just 27 runs for victory, Assam faltered, losing five wickets for 21 runs on the board. But since the target was so small, they cruised home comfortably in the end with a whole day remaining.
Saurabh Kumar (3/16) was the pick of the bowlers for Services.
Brief scores:
Services: 113 & 170 all out (Rajat Paliwal 48; Swarupam Purkayastha 5/29, Arup Das 2/21, J Syed Mohammad 2/40).
