Former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram became a father for the third time on Saturday as his Australian wife, Shaniera Akram, delivered a baby girl in Melbourne.
Arsalan Shah, Wasim's Dubai-based manager, told mid-day, "The health of the newborn baby and her mother is very good. Mrs Akram will be discharged from the private hospital on Sunday evening. The family has decided to name her Aiyla.
Meanwhile, Shaniera tweeted, "Wasim, myself and our boys would like to thank everyone for welcoming our little princess Aiyla into the world. We couldn't be happier."
Wasim has two sons from his first wife Huma, who died five years ago. However, Arsalan said the former pacer will cherish fatherhood even more this time around.
"Akram will enjoy fatherhood more this time because when his two sons were born, he was travelling a lot for cricket," the manager said. "In fact, Akram was to do commentary (from a studio in India) for the ongoing third Test between India and Australia, but took leave citing family commitments. But he fulfilled his earlier commitments," the manager added.
It is learnt that Wasim's two sons have accompanied the cricket personality to Australia. "Taimur and Akbar have Christmas vacations and therefore Akram took them with him to Australia," Arsalan revealed.
