Former Board of Control for Cricket in India chief N. Srinivasan has said that the image of Indian cricket has not been tarnished in the wake of allegations of spot-fixing in the Indian Premier League or IPL.
Speaking at a press conference at an International Cricket Council (ICC) event on Monday, Srinivasan said, "I don't think the image of Indian cricket has been hit."
The suspended BCCI chief - through his lawyer Kapil Sibal - also told Supreme Court on Monday that all allegations against him are false. The Mudgal probe committee, in its report submitted to Supreme Court, had said that Srinivasan was aware of betting in IPL but had not acted against the guilty. In a previous hearing, the court had raised issues of conflict of interest against Srinivasan. The court had also said that Srinivasan needed to answer questions regarding his son-in-law and Chennai Super Kings official Gurunath Meiyappan, who was indicted for betting in IPL 2013.
"I acted with speed when I got to know about allegations against my son - in- law. BCCI launched a complaint against Meiyappan and Raj Kundra," he told the apex court. (Read in full: All allegations against me are false, Srinivasan tells Supreme Court )
This is in contradiction to what the Mudgal IPL spot-fixing probe committee had said in its report submitted to Supreme Court. The probe report had said that as BCCI chief, Srinivasan had not acted against guilty players and officials who were indulging in spot-fixing. Supreme Court had also asked Srinivasan how he can seek to be BCCI chief while his son-in-law - Meiyappan - was a Chennai Super Kings official and was indicted for betting during IPL 2013.
