India have expressed displeasure over the practice pitches in Brisbane. They feel that the poor quality of the pitches led to two of their key players getting injured before going out to bat on the fourth day.
Overnight not out batsman Shikhar Dhawan was hit on his right wrist and Virat Kohli received a blow in the left forearm. Dhawan, who was batting on 26 had had to retire hurt before play began, and his replacement Kohli was dismissed for 1 off 11 balls, triggering a collapse during which India lost 4 for 11.
According to an article in ESPNcricinfo, the BCCI has said in an official statement that the visitors had asked for fresh wickets to practice which were not provided.
"Indian team has been asking for the fresh net practice wickets several times for last two days, which have not been provided," BCCI's official statement said.
"Instead of that, they [curators] have asked [us] to practice on worn-out wickets, which have uneven bounce. Because of that, two of our batsmen got injured today morning. One of the two batsmen, Shikar Dhawan, had a right wrist injury. Because of that he was unable to bat in the morning. He is being examined by our physio, and will assess his fitness in some time."
Dhawan was expected to bat despite the pain as there was no time for him to go for scans. He came out to bat after India lost their sixth wicket with the score on 117. Kohli did not go for scans, and no official complaint has been lodged by the Indian team as of now.
