Rohit Sharma created history on Thursday, becoming the highest individual scorer in a single ODI and the only player to hit two double tons in the 50-over format of the game. Rohit's scintillating essay, was the fourth individual score in excess of 200 in ODIs. The other double centuries have also been scored by Indians - Sachin Tendulkar (200) and Virender Sehwag (219) and share an uncanny coincidence with Rohit's latest knock. On all three occasions - Sachin's 200, Sehwag's 219 and Rohit's 264 - India recorded victories by the exact same margin of 153 runs. (Twitter Buzz on Rohit's Record Score)
Rohit, who survived a chance on 4, shifted gears to perfection as the innings moved along. His fifty came off 72 balls, his hundred off 100 and 200 off 151. (Lots Left to Achieve: Rohit)
In his 173-ball knock, Rohit smashed 33 fours, highest by a batsman in a single ODI innings. Coincidentally, Rohit also has the distinction of hitting the most number of sixes in an innings. He claimed that record when he hit 16 towering shots past the boundary line in his first double century (209), against Australia in 2013. (Kohli Hails Rohit)
Rohit finished on a mammoth score 264, a number that is set to remain unbeaten for a long time to come. His colossal innings enabled India to become the first team to score 400-plus runs on five occasions in ODIs: twice against Sri Lanka, once each vs West Indies, Bermuda and South Africa. No other team has accomplished the feat more than twice. (Rohit 'Not Tired' After Epic Knock)
