New Zealand great Martin Crowe has refused to undergo chemotherapy to cure the return of cancer, according to a report in Stuff.co.nz. In September, Crowe revealed he had a cancer relapse, 15 months after announcing it was under control.

Crowe is believed to have told his friends and family he had rejected chemotherapy after saying he will now have to undergo further treatment.

"You never beat lymphoma, but I was hopeful that after the first episode I might be clear for a few years; I felt very well," Crowe had written in September.

The 51-year-old was first diagnosed with lymphoma in 2012, but after months of chemotherapy he said doctors had told him the cancer had shrunk to safe levels, although there was always the possibility of a relapse.

The former New Zealand skipper played 77 Test matches and 143 ODIs, between 1982 and 1995. He was a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1985.
